They are designed by highly qualified and experienced teachers and team members, in conjunction with regular parent and student feedback, assuring that activities are scheduled, and resources are available to meet their needs and interests.

Placing Child Voice at the centre of Child Care
About Us
Our innovative approach to onsite school aged childcare creates a safe space where each child is inspired to be the Hero of their own story.
With child voice and well-being at the forefront of what we do, children are supported in developing their own values and social skills, in a familiar and welcoming environment, where creativity flows, curiosity flourishes and friendships are made. Above all else, they have fun!
How Laochra started
Emer McVeety is deeply committed to child-centered education, drawing from over a decade of experience as a primary school teacher and now as the founder of Laochra Academy. Armed with a Bachelor of Education from Coláiste Mhuire Marino Dublin and a Master's in Educational Management & Training from Dublin City University, she infuses her work with a profound understanding of curriculum development and after-school activities. Her journey began with a desire to transform the school-aged childcare experience in the Cavan region, driven by her unwavering passion for child development.
With a focus on prioritising child voice and holistic growth, Emer went on to publish an article based on her own action research (McVeety & Farren, 2019), demonstrating how child voice can be meaningfully incorporated into the classroom. Having taught internationally, Emer has also seen the power of collaboration between schools and after-school providers. Her team's dedication to fostering curiosity, creativity, and social interaction in activity-led environments has made Laochra Academy a hub of new ideas in the field of school aged childcare.
